Theatre was at the heart of Little Thespian’s 49th Rang Adda, organised jointly with Gokhale Memorial Girls’ College and Bangabasi Morning College on September 15 as part of the Hindi Diwas celebrations.
The Theatre-focused workshop, titled “Theatre and Youth: The Role of Educational Institutions,” brought together academicians and theatre practitioners to discuss theatre education, creativity, communication and the challenges faced by young people today.
The programme began with remarks by Principal Dr. Atashi Karpha and a welcome address by Dr. Reshmi Panda Mukherjee. Speakers including Dr. Itu Singh, Dr. Ashutosh Kumar, Dr. Sreeparna Tarafdar, Rakesh Kumar Tripathi, Dr. Taiyab Nuamani, Dr. Satya Prakash Tiwari and Dr. Almas Hossain shared their views.
Dr. Itu Singh highlighted the declining attention span among students due to social media and stressed the importance of meaningful learning and human interaction. She described theatre as a powerful force for social awareness and change.
Dr. Almas Hossain called for greater support for Urdu theatre and theatre workshops in colleges. Other speakers highlighted theatre’s role in developing confidence, empathy, communication and social harmony.
Senior theatre artiste Rakesh Kumar Tripathi stressed that theatre should be introduced in schools as a formal subject and explained that the profession extends beyond acting to direction, writing, lighting, sound, costume and makeup.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Little Thespian President and theatre director Uma Jhunjhunwala and Shri Amar Kumar Choudhary of Gokhale Memorial Girls’ College.
The Rang Adda ultimately became a meaningful dialogue between theatre, education and youth, highlighting the need to give students greater opportunities to engage with the performing arts.
