Rang Adda, the literary and cultural initiative of Little Thespian, marked its 46th edition with a special “Laghukatha Sangoshthi” on August 9, 2026, at Mohasin Auditorium, Calcutta Madarsa. The programme brought together writers, theatre artists, literary figures and enthusiasts for an evening centred on short-short stories, discussion and theatrical presentation.
The Rang Adda series has been conceived as a platform where literature and theatre can interact with one another beyond conventional boundaries. Through readings, conversations and stage presentations, the initiative seeks to encourage literary expression while creating opportunities for writers, performers and audiences to engage with contemporary social and human concerns.
Laghukatha Takes Centre Stage
The 46th edition was devoted to Laghukatha, a compact literary form known for presenting powerful ideas and situations through brief narratives. A number of writers presented their original works during the session, exploring varied aspects of human relationships, society and everyday life.
The participating writers included Shikhar Chand Jain, Sabita Bhuwaniya, Rachna Saran, Anamika Singh, Sweety Kumari Mahto, Bhupendra Singh Bashar, Ranjana Jha, Sudha Mishra Dwivedi and Nidhi Kumari Singh. Their stories touched upon a range of human and social themes and received an appreciative response from those present.
Senior litterateur Suresh Choudhary, who attended the event as the special guest, shared his reflections on the stories and the importance of literary engagement. Dr. Reshmi Panda Mukherjee also discussed the works presented, drawing attention to their literary qualities as well as their wider social relevance.
Stories Move from Page to Stage
One of the highlights of the evening was the theatrical presentation of selected Laghukathas. Little Thespian artists Sangeetha Vyas, Sudha Gaur, Intekhab Warsi, Bhavesh Bhagat and Gunjan Azhar performed dramatic readings of the stories.
The presentations added a distinctive theatrical dimension to the literary gathering and demonstrated how the brevity and intensity of Laghukatha can lend itself to performance. The audience responded warmly to the presentations, making the segment an important part of the evening.
The programme was conducted by MD Asif Ansari, while Rawel Pushp served as the coordinator.
In her concluding address, Guru Maa Uma Jhunjhunwala expressed her gratitude to the participating writers, artists, guests and audience members. She emphasised that the real strength of a cultural programme comes from the involvement, encouragement and response of its audience.
Little Thespian also thanked the A.P. Department of Calcutta Madarsa for its support, along with the writers, speakers, performers and others who contributed to the successful organisation of the programme.
The 46th Rang Adda concluded as a celebration of literature, theatre and cultural exchange, reaffirming Little Thespian’s continuing effort to create a shared space for writers, performers and audiences. By bringing Laghukatha from the written page into a theatrical setting, the programme offered another meaningful way of experiencing and discussing contemporary literature.
