Theatre Workshop by Little Thespian at Ek Tara introduces students to theatre through creative activities focused on confidence, teamwork and emotional growth.

KOLKATA: Theatre Workshop took centre stage at Ek Tara on August 22, as Little Thespian, one of Kolkata’s recognised Hindi theatre groups, organised an engaging Theatre Awareness Workshop for students under its Theatre-In-Education (TIE) programme. The session began at 3:00 PM in the school auditorium and introduced students to theatre through interactive activities, games and practical exercises.
The Theatre Workshop was part of Little Thespian’s long-standing philosophy of “Catch Them Young”, through which the group seeks to introduce children to theatre at an early age. The initiative is aimed not merely at developing future performers but at using theatre as an educational tool to nurture confidence, creativity, discipline, communication and social awareness among young learners.
Theatre as a Tool for Learning and Personal Growth
The workshop was led by Ms. Uma Jhunjhunwala, President of Little Thespian, along with team members Md. Asif Ansari, Gunjan Azhar, Md. Aftab Alam and Heena Parwez. Through a series of carefully designed theatre games and activities, the team encouraged students to participate actively and discover the connection between performance and everyday learning.
The activities placed particular emphasis on teamwork, concentration, quick thinking, confidence and body control. Students were also encouraged to explore movement and emotional expression, helping them understand how theatre can become a powerful medium for communicating ideas and feelings.
For many of the students, the experience was entirely new. They participated enthusiastically in the interactive exercises and expressed their enjoyment of the session. Several students also shared that it was their first opportunity to take part in a theatre workshop of this nature.
Faculty members at Ek Tara welcomed the initiative and appreciated Little Thespian’s effort to bring theatre into the educational environment. They expressed interest in organising similar programmes in the future, observing that theatre can provide students with a wider space for creativity, imagination and self-expression.
Little Thespian’s TIE programme seeks to make learning more participatory and imaginative by integrating theatre-based activities into the educational process. The organisation believes that exposure to theatre can contribute to a child’s overall development, helping students become more confident, emotionally aware and sensitive to the people and world around them.
The workshop therefore went beyond the traditional idea of theatre as simply a performing art. By combining learning with participation and creative expression, the programme aimed to help students develop qualities that can benefit them both inside and outside the classroom.
The programme concluded with the faculty members of Ek Tara expressing their heartfelt gratitude to Little Thespian, Ms. Uma Jhunjhunwala and the entire team for conducting the workshop and giving the students an opportunity to experience theatre in a new and meaningful way.
