Paddapukur Office associated with Ward 54 councillor Amiruddin (Bobby) has reportedly been removed in a demolition drive carried out by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), bringing renewed political attention to the Paddapukur area and the long-running debate over the use of public spaces and alleged unauthorised structures.

The Paddapukur Office had become a politically recognisable site in Ward 54. According to allegations circulating locally, the structure had been constructed inside or over a portion of the Paddapukur Park area without the required legal permissions. KMC’s demolition action has now removed the structure, turning what was once a prominent political office into a symbol of the changing political and administrative landscape in the ward.

Official KMC records confirm Amiruddin (Bobby)’s longstanding association with Ward 54 and show that he previously served as a Mayor-in-Council member handling the Markets portfolio.
From Political Stronghold to Demolition Site at Paddapukur
The demolition has generated considerable discussion among residents and political workers in the locality. Some local voices have portrayed the action as a response to what they allege was unauthorised occupation of public land, while supporters of Bobby have historically rejected allegations of wrongdoing as politically motivated. Earlier reporting has documented opposition allegations concerning Bobby during his political career, while he had described such charges as baseless.

The development is particularly significant because Paddapukur has previously been used for political and community activities associated with Ward 54. A 2024 report, for example, recorded a large Trinamool Congress workers’ meeting at Padda Pukur Ground under Bobby’s leadership. The area has also hosted sporting and community programmes involving Bobby and organisations associated with him.
The latest demolition therefore carries a political as well as administrative significance. A structure that had become associated with local political activity has now disappeared following municipal action.
The controversy surrounding Bobby is not entirely new. In January 2023, The Times of India reported that the Income Tax Department had sought documents relating to a hotel on AJC Bose Road in which Bobby was reported to have an interest, following an Income Tax search. Those developments, however, should not be conflated with the present demolition action unless the authorities establish a direct connection.
Questions Over Public Land and Accountability
The central issue raised by the latest action is whether public spaces can be occupied or structurally altered for political or private purposes without proper statutory approval.

Residents and political opponents are now asking who authorised the construction, what permissions were obtained, and whether similar structures or alleged encroachments elsewhere in the city will face comparable scrutiny. These are questions that can ultimately be answered only through municipal records, demolition notices, land documents and statements from the relevant authorities.
The political symbolism is nevertheless difficult to miss. The office once associated with a powerful Ward 54 political figure has been reduced to rubble, while the municipal administration has demonstrated that structures standing on disputed or unauthorised premises can be removed.
For residents of Ward 54, however, the immediate question is less about political symbolism and more about the future of the Paddapukur site. Whether the space will now be restored fully for public use, landscaped, secured from further encroachment or subjected to another municipal plan remains an important question for the authorities.
The political language surrounding the demolition is already becoming sharper, with opponents presenting it as evidence that an era of alleged political protection for unauthorised constructions is ending. Such claims remain political assertions unless supported by official findings or judicial determinations.
What is beyond dispute is that the structure has been removed, and the demolition has opened a fresh chapter in the political contest over Ward 54, public land and municipal accountability.
