Adani Investment is set to take a major step forward in West Bengal, with Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani announcing plans to invest more than ₹1 lakh crore in the state by 2035 across a range of infrastructure and industrial sectors. The announcement came on Thursday during the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the proposed 2,000-bed Adani Arogya Mandir in New Town, Kolkata.

The Adani Investment plan is expected to cover sectors including ports, logistics, power generation, transmission and distribution, roads and bridges, green cement and hyperscale data centres. The announcement signals the group’s intention to expand its presence in West Bengal beyond the proposed healthcare project.

Gautam Adani announced an investment of more than ₹4,000 crore in the Adani Arogya Mandir, a proposed not-for-profit medical institution that will combine a hospital, medical college and advanced research facilities. The project is planned in New Town and is expected to create more than 10,000 employment opportunities across the healthcare ecosystem.

The proposed facility will have 2,000 beds, of which around 1,000 beds are planned for economically weaker sections eligible for treatment through state and central government health-insurance schemes. The project is being presented as a comprehensive healthcare and medical education centre rather than simply a standalone hospital.

Adani, accompanied by his wife Priti Adani and son Karan Adani, participated in the bhumi pujan and foundation stone-laying ceremony in New Town. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari was also present at the event.

Adani Calls Bengal His “Second Karmabhoomi”

Addressing the gathering, Gautam Adani spoke about West Bengal’s historical, economic and geographical significance. He described Gujarat, particularly Mundra, as his first karmabhoomi and said Bengal could become his second karmabhoomi. Adani also began his address in Bengali, paying respect to Kolkata and the land of Bengal. He referred to the state’s intellectual and cultural heritage and highlighted its strategic location as an important gateway to eastern and northeastern India as well as a maritime link with Southeast Asia.

The Adani Group chairman said West Bengal had significant potential for investment and job creation, particularly if supported by infrastructure development and sustained capital investment.

The broader investment programme announced by Adani includes areas such as power, infrastructure, logistics, ports and other emerging sectors. The group said the proposed investments are intended to strengthen its long-term presence in the state through multiple projects rather than a single development.

Healthcare, Education and Research Under One Campus

The Adani Arogya Mandir is planned as an integrated healthcare and academic institution. Alongside the 2,000-bed hospital, the project will include a medical college and facilities for advanced medical research.

According to details released about the project, the campus will cover approximately 51.75 acres in New Town’s Bengal Silicon Valley area. The healthcare institution is being planned as a not-for-profit facility, with a substantial portion of its capacity intended for economically weaker patients.

The project is therefore expected to bring together healthcare delivery, medical education, research and employment generation within a single campus.

During his address, Adani also pointed to West Bengal’s wider infrastructure potential. The group’s proposed investment programme is expected to include power generation and distribution, roads, bridges, logistics and port-related activities, alongside newer areas such as green cement and hyperscale data centres.

The announcement comes at a time when the West Bengal government is seeking to attract large-scale private investment and expand industrial and infrastructure activity across the state.

For the Adani Group, the proposed ₹1 lakh crore investment represents a long-term expansion plan in eastern India, while the Arogya Mandir project is expected to become one of the group’s major healthcare initiatives in the region.

The foundation stone ceremony in New Town thus marked both the formal beginning of the healthcare project and the announcement of a much larger investment vision for West Bengal extending up to 2035.
