WBCSSC Members across West Bengal have officially taken on a pivotal administrative role following a sweeping government order designed to restructure the state’s primary school teacher recruitment authority. In an official notification issued under Order No. 914-SED-11099/114/2025-SECND on August 11, 2026, the School Education Department (Secondary Branch) of West Bengal invoked statutory powers under Section 3(4) of the West Bengal School Service Commission Act, 1997, to appoint four highly distinguished figures to the commission. Issued from Bikash Bhavan, Salt Lake, Kolkata, by order of the Governor and signed by the Deputy Secretary to the Government of West Bengal, the notification enacts these appointments with immediate effect and until further orders.
This significant administrative shift brings three eminent monks from the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, alongside a renowned management scholar, onto the board of WBCSSC Members to reinforce governance and ethical standards. The newly appointed members include Swami Atmapriyananda, Pro-Chancellor and Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI); Swami Shastrajnananda, Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Narendrapur; Swami Tattwasarananda, Trustee and Governing Body Member of Ramakrishna Math (Belur Math) and Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture at Gol Park; and Prof. Ramya Tarakad Venkateshwaran, Professor in the Strategic Management Group at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta. Their conditions of service will remain strictly governed by the legislative provisions outlined in the West Bengal School Service Commission Act, 1997.
To ensure immediate compliance and operational continuity, the state government has formally communicated this directive to all major institutional stakeholders via copy memorandum No. 914/1(16)-SED-11099/114/2025. Copies of the order have been dispatched to the Principal Accountant General (A&E), the Commissioner of School Education, the Chairman and Secretary of the West Bengal Central School Service Commission at Acharya Sadan, the Presidents of both the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) and the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE), as well as the Private Secretaries to the Honorable Minister-in-Charge and Minister of State for School Education. By seamlessly integrating high-caliber academic leadership into state administrative oversight, the government aims to guarantee complete credibility, equity, and smooth execution across future recruitment cycles.
