MUMBAI: Viral Fake Screenshot Claim has sparked a heated debate on social media after a screenshot attributed to actor Imran Khan’s verified Instagram account allegedly claimed that he had been offered ₹15 lakh to publish posts opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government. The screenshot has circulated widely on X, formerly Twitter, amid reports that Mumbai Police had directed the actor to leave India by October 28. However, the authenticity of the purported Instagram Story remains unverified.
The controversy follows reports that Imran Khan faced an order to leave India after expressing support for the so-called “Cockroach Janta Party” (CJP) and its protest campaign. The development has divided social media users, with some expressing support for the actor while others have backed the reported police action. Against this backdrop, the viral fake screenshot claim has attracted considerable attention, particularly because it alleges that money was offered to influence the actor’s political expression.

Viral Screenshot Claims ₹15 Lakh Offer, but Questions Remain Over Authenticity

The circulating image appears to show a statement attributed to Imran Khan in which he allegedly says that he was offered ₹15 lakh to post content against the Modi government. The purported message further claims that he rejected the offer and participated in the protest voluntarily, without accepting any payment.
However, there is no independently verified evidence in the information available to establish that the actor published this statement on his verified Instagram account. A review of the account reportedly did not reveal the alleged Story, raising questions about whether the screenshot is genuine.
Some social media users have suggested that the image may be fabricated, potentially using artificial intelligence or image-editing tools. Others have continued to circulate the screenshot as though it were authentic.
One user, reacting to the viral post, reportedly criticised the circulation of fabricated celebrity screenshots, arguing that similar claims appear regularly on social media under the names of public figures.
The claims have therefore created two separate points of controversy: the reported action against the actor and the authenticity of the alleged ₹15 lakh offer. Neither should be treated as established fact solely on the basis of a widely shared screenshot.

Viral Screenshot  : No Verified Confirmation of the Alleged Offer

The original report stated that the authenticity of the screenshot could not be confirmed. No independently verified evidence was provided to establish who created the image, whether an actual financial offer was made, or whether Imran Khan ever issued the statement attributed to him.
There has also been no confirmed response from the actor regarding the circulating screenshot in the information available for this report.
The reported instruction requiring him to leave India by October 28 is a separate matter. Its precise legal basis and the details of the notice would need to be checked against official documents or a statement from the relevant authorities.
The episode highlights how quickly unverified claims involving celebrities and political figures can spread online, particularly during politically charged controversies. Screenshots can be altered, taken out of context or fabricated, making verification against an original post or an authenticated statement essential.
For now, the alleged ₹15 lakh offer remains unverified, and the screenshot should not be regarded as proof that Imran Khan was approached to publish anti-government content.
