The Abhishek Banerjee Summons controversy has resurfaced after police officers visited the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader’s residence in Kalighat, Kolkata, on Sunday to serve a fresh notice in connection with the Camac Street billboard incident. According to police sources cited in the report, Banerjee, the TMC national general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP, has been asked to appear at Shakespeare Sarani Police Station on Monday for questioning.

The latest Abhishek Banerjee Summons follows an earlier attempt by police to deliver the notice at his residence on Wednesday evening. On that occasion, the officers reportedly returned without serving it after being informed that nobody was available to receive the notice and that Banerjee was outside Kolkata. He had travelled to Delhi to participate in a protest organised by the opposition INDIA bloc, which was demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Banerjee returned to Kolkata on Saturday, after which police made another visit to his Kalighat residence on Sunday.

Police Renew Investigation into August 27 Billboard Dispute

The case dates back to August 27, when a confrontation broke out on Camac Street over the removal of a billboard installed near Banerjee’s office. The incident reportedly involved TMC supporters, police personnel and officials from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), leading to heated exchanges and allegations of physical altercations.
According to the report, police officers and municipal officials faced resistance from some of Banerjee’s supporters during the operation. Amid the ensuing commotion, police personnel allegedly forced their way onto the rooftop of the building and removed a billboard bearing the Trinamool Congress name and its twin-flower election symbol.
The authorities reportedly maintained that the billboard had been installed illegally and posed a potential safety risk in the area. The removal triggered objections from TMC supporters, while allegations of pushing and scuffling emerged from the confrontation.
Following the incident, Banerjee and his associates reportedly put up another banner displaying the same party name and symbol at the location.

Three FIRs Registered Over Camac Street Incident against Abhishek Banerjee

The Camac Street episode resulted in three separate First Information Reports (FIRs) being registered at Shakespeare Sarani Police Station. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the events that unfolded during the billboard’s removal.
Police have already questioned Banerjee in connection with one of the three cases. The Diamond Harbour MP had previously appeared at Shakespeare Sarani Police Station for questioning in that matter.
The latest notice indicates that investigators want to question him again in connection with the ongoing investigation. However, the precise scope of the proposed questioning and the specific allegations covered by the fresh notice have not been detailed in the supplied report.

Police officers arrived at Banerjee’s Kalighat residence on Sunday morning carrying the notice. They reportedly waited outside the gate for some time before the notice was eventually received.
The development came just days after the earlier attempt to serve the same notice had failed. Banerjee’s absence from Kolkata at the time had prevented the police from completing the process on Wednesday, according to the account provided.
With the notice now reportedly served, Banerjee has been asked to appear at Shakespeare Sarani Police Station on Monday. His appearance would form part of the police investigation into the August 27 incident.

The renewed police action comes amid continuing political activity involving the TMC leadership and the opposition INDIA bloc. Banerjee’s recent visit to Delhi was linked to the opposition’s demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The billboard dispute, meanwhile, has brought local enforcement action, municipal regulations and party-related displays into the political spotlight in Kolkata.
For now, the investigation remains focused on the events surrounding the billboard’s removal and the subsequent confrontation. Any conclusions about individual responsibility will depend on the evidence gathered by investigators and the findings of the legal process.
