Central enforcement agencies escalated pressure on the Trinamool Congress leadership on Monday morning as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched synchronized raids targeting Akhbar-e-Mashriq Private Limited and its director, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Mohammed Nadimul Haque. The aggressive nationwide crackdown spans seven locations in Kolkata, Delhi, and Ranchi. Federal investigators are probing serious charges of money laundering, unaccounted cash transactions, and suspicious external funding funneled under the guise of media operations, alongside allegations that the publication disseminated content aimed at inciting communal disharmony.

Escorted by armed Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) units, federal agents executed search warrants at the core premises of Akhbar-e-Mashriq at 12 Darga Road in Park Circus, Kolkata, seizing digital servers, banking records, and undisclosed paper trails. The agency extended its search grid to the MP’s residence, the homes of his sister and in-law, and an Akhbar-e-Mashriq printing setup in Ranchi’s Koker Industrial Area. Investigators also raided 61 South Avenue in New Delhi—a strategic nerve center for TMC’s national operations—exposing how party infrastructure and private media assets were allegedly intertwined to execute illicit financial dealings.
The federal investigation, registered as an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), stems from an earlier criminal complaint filed by the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate. Sleuths allege that Akhbar-e-Mashriq functioned as a conduit to clean proceeds of crime and siphon unaccounted funds into political channels. As forensic accountants dissect bank accounts and trace illegal fund transfers, neither Nadimul Haque nor the TMC top brass at Kalighat has offered a defense against the mounting corruption charges.
