A Heavy Rain Alert has been issued across parts of West Bengal as Kolkata continues to receive spells of rain since Wednesday morning. Several parts of the city witnessed repeated showers, with waterlogging reported on a number of roads. The India Meteorological Department has warned of more moderate to heavy rainfall in Kolkata over the next few hours, while an orange alert has been issued for Hooghly, Howrah and South 24 Parganas.
The Heavy Rain Alert comes after another day of widespread rainfall across Kolkata and other parts of southern West Bengal. Rain began in several areas of the city during the morning and continued intermittently, affecting normal movement in some locations. According to the weather bulletin, the rainfall is likely to remain active through the day, with thunderstorms also possible in some areas.
Heavy Rain Expected Across South and North Bengal
The weather system is not limited to Kolkata. Several districts across South Bengal are expected to receive rainfall, although the intensity will vary from one area to another. East Burdwan has been warned of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
Rain is also expected to continue across all districts of South Bengal on Thursday. A yellow alert has been issued for the region, while some districts may experience significantly heavier rainfall.
The Meteorological Department has forecast the possibility of very heavy rainfall in Hooghly, East Burdwan, West Burdwan and Birbhum on Thursday. Residents in these areas have been advised to remain alert, particularly during periods of intense rainfall and thunderstorms.
Heavy Rain Alert Deepens as More Districts Brace for Intense Showers
Meanwhile, Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Nadia and Murshidabad are expected to receive heavy rainfall on Thursday. The combination of persistent rain and already waterlogged roads could cause further disruption to traffic and daily activities in some areas.
The situation is expected to improve gradually from Friday, with rainfall becoming less intense in most parts of South Bengal. However, isolated showers are likely to continue across several districts.
North Bengal, meanwhile, is also expected to remain under the influence of unsettled weather. All districts of North Bengal have been warned of heavy rainfall over the coming days. The situation could become more intense on Thursday, when Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar are likely to receive very heavy rainfall.
With rain forecast across both northern and southern parts of the state, residents are likely to experience continued wet weather over the next few days. Authorities and commuters are expected to keep a close watch on local weather updates, particularly in areas vulnerable to waterlogging and heavy downpours.
