Equality took center stage on the occasion of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Jayanti as prominent human rights activist and Qaed Urdu Shamim Ahmed addressed the public with a thought-provoking message. He emphasized that the day should not be limited to ceremonial tributes, but should serve as a moment of reflection on whether society is truly living up to the ideals laid down by Ambedkar.

Equality

Shamim Ahmad stated that while the Constitution guarantees equal rights to every citizen, the reality on the ground often tells a different story. Equality, he noted, cannot remain confined to legal texts—it must be visible in social behavior and public life. He stressed that merely having laws is not enough; what truly matters is how sincerely those laws are implemented and practiced in society.

Freedom of Expression in a Changing Landscape

He further pointed out that freedom of expression, one of the pillars of democracy, is facing subtle yet serious challenges in today’s environment. Institutional pressures, social backlash, and legal complexities often discourage individuals from speaking openly. According to Shamim Ahmad, true freedom lies not just in the right to speak, but in the courage to express truth without fear or compromise.

A Message to the Youth

Addressing the younger generation, he urged them to embrace constitutional values—justice, liberty, and equality—as guiding principles in their lives. He highlighted education as the most powerful tool for social transformation and encouraged young people to stand against all forms of discrimination with awareness and responsibility.

Concluding his message, Shamim Ahmed remarked that Ambedkar Jayanti is a reminder that democracy thrives not only on rights but also on accountability. He called upon citizens to foster harmony, mutual respect, and inclusiveness, and to work collectively toward building a society where everyone truly enjoys equal opportunities and dignity.
