DJ Remark Case took a significant turn on Thursday as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) summoned Gosaba BJP MLA Bikarna Naskar to appear as a witness in connection with its ongoing probe into Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s alleged “DJ” remark. The legislator has been directed to appear before investigators at Bhawani Bhavan at 12 noon, where his statement is expected to be formally recorded.
The DJ Remark Case is being investigated following a complaint lodged by Baguiati resident Rajib Sarkar, who alleged that Abhishek Banerjee’s public “DJ” remark was provocative and had the potential to incite violence. Investigators believe that an incident involving Bikarna Naskar on the day the West Bengal Assembly election results were announced could provide important evidence relevant to the case.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, Naskar was allegedly attacked while returning to his constituency with BJP supporters after the declaration of election results. He claimed that the incident occurred in Canning when a group of alleged Trinamool Congress workers attacked his convoy. Naskar alleged that he and several party workers sustained injuries during the incident.

The BJP MLA further claimed that slogans in support of Abhishek Banerjee were raised during the alleged assault. He also alleged that Canning West Trinamool Congress MLA Paresh Ram Das was present at the party office near the location where the incident took place. Following the incident, Naskar lodged a formal complaint with Canning Police Station.
Responding to the allegations, Paresh Ram Das denied that any assault had taken place. He stated that a brief verbal altercation occurred after BJP supporters allegedly made objectionable gestures while passing his office on the night the election results were declared. According to him, police personnel were present at the spot, and the situation never escalated into a physical attack. He maintained that the FIR filed by the BJP MLA was politically motivated and confirmed that he had already obtained bail in the related case.
CID officials reportedly consider the Canning incident a potentially significant piece of evidence in the DJ Remark Case, prompting the decision to record Bikarna Naskar’s testimony as part of the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the legal proceedings involving Abhishek Banerjee continue to gather momentum. The CID has already approached the court seeking permission to collect his voice sample for forensic examination in relation to the alleged remark. Banerjee has reportedly skipped two earlier appearances for providing the sample and also sought relief from the Calcutta High Court to avoid the procedure. However, the High Court did not grant him the exemption he sought.
On Wednesday, after Banerjee again failed to appear before the Bidhannagar lower court for the scheduled voice sample collection, the CID informed the court that he was not cooperating with the investigation. The court has now fixed July 18 as the next date for recording his voice sample, making the upcoming proceedings crucial for the future course of the investigation.
