Konark Inspires Students at Little Thespian’s 44th Rang Adda
KOLKATA: Konark became the centre of an engaging theatrical and academic experience as Little Thespian, Kolkata’s renowned theatre group, successfully organized its 44th Rang Adda on July 4, 2026, at 12:00 PM in the Conference Room of Khidderpore College. The event was jointly organized in collaboration with Khidderpore College and Gokhale Memorial Girls’ College and featured a dramatic reading of celebrated playwright Jagdish Chandra Mathur’s acclaimed play Konark.

Little Thespian’s Rang Adda is dedicated to introducing the younger generation to theatre while making prescribed literary texts more accessible through creative learning. Since Konark is included in the syllabus of both participating colleges, it was selected for this edition. Through workshops, dramatic readings, and interactive discussions, students were able to understand the play in a lively and practical manner, making their classroom learning more meaningful.
The dramatic reading was performed by Little Thespian artists Md. Asif Ansari, Annie Das, Padmakar Vyas, Dr. Ramashankar Singh, Shambhu Singh, Shahbaz Khan, Bhavesh Bhagat, and Abhishek Ray. Their performance brought the characters and themes of Konark to life, allowing students to experience the text beyond the printed page.
Adding academic depth to the programme, Prof. Dr. Reshmi Panda Mukherjee of Gokhale Memorial Girls’ College and Prof. Dr. Itu Singh of Khidderpore College explained the historical background, literary significance, and theatrical relevance of the play. Their insights helped students appreciate the work from both literary and performance perspectives.
The 44th Rang Adda concluded with lively interactions between students, faculty members, and theatre practitioners. The programme once again demonstrated how theatre can serve as an effective educational tool, leaving participants with a richer understanding of literature and a memorable learning experience.
