Terror Attack Targets Assam Rifles Convoy

A brutal terror attack in Manipur has left two Assam Rifles personnel dead and at least six others injured. The ambush took place on Friday evening around 6 p.m. near Nambol Sabal Leikai along National Highway 2 in Bishnupur district. Militants armed with automatic weapons opened indiscriminate fire on a mini-truck carrying soldiers from the 33rd unit of Assam Rifles.

The convoy was traveling from Imphal to Bishnupur when it came under sudden attack. Security officials believe the strike was carried out by Kuki militants who may have crossed over from Myanmar.

High Alert After the Ambush

The terror attack in Manipur comes barely a week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state, during which his convoy passed through the same area. Following the assault, additional forces were rushed to the site, and a massive combing operation has been launched in the surrounding hills and forests to track down the perpetrators.

So far, no insurgent group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Recent Security Concerns

Authorities noted that the ambush occurred in a zone where the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) had recently been withdrawn, raising fresh concerns about vulnerabilities in the region. The attack highlights the ongoing security challenges in Manipur, which has witnessed repeated militant strikes despite counter-insurgency measures.
