Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has demanded an immediate special relief package for several flood-affected states of North India. He said that the recent heavy floods and rains in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have destroyed public life and thousands of families have been left homeless.

Rahul Gandhi, addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly through a post on X, said that the current situation is very worrying. According to him, Punjab has suffered extensive damage due to rain and boiling of rivers, while Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also in the grip of natural disasters.
He wrote, “The floods have caused terrible devastation in Punjab. The situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand is also very worrying. In such difficult times, your attention and active support of the Central Government are very important. Thousands of families are struggling to save their homes, lives and loved ones. I appeal that a special relief package be announced immediately for these states, especially for farmers, and relief and rescue operations be expedited.”
Rahul Gandhi also released a video message in which he said that it is painful to see the suffering of the flood-affected people. According to him, “Modiji, it is the responsibility of the government to protect the people. You should announce a special relief package as soon as possible and help the affected people.”
The floods have destroyed a large number of standing paddy and vegetable crops in Punjab. Several villages have been submerged and thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes and seek shelter in safer places. Roads, bridges and other infrastructure have also been badly affected.
rains and landslides in Jammu and Kashmir have severely affected transportation. Road connectivity has been disrupted in many areas while the danger has increased in villages situated along the river banks. The local administration is busy with relief work but the difficulties have increased as the number of victims has increased.
Cloudbursts and landslides have blocked several roads in Himachal Pradesh. Bridge collapses have disrupted transportation and people are facing difficulties even at tourist spots.
Similarly, in Uttarakhand, the Ganges and other rivers are flowing above the danger mark, due to which villages and many religious places are also flooded. Here too, landslides and rain have caused extensive damage.
