In a fiery and unyielding reaction to the election outcome, Mamata Banerjee made it clear that stepping down is not an option, insisting that her party has not been defeated.

Addressing reporters from her Kalighat residence, Mamata strongly pushed back against calls for resignation, placing her statement “Why Should I Resign? We Haven’t Lost” at the center of the political storm.
Standing beside Abhishek Banerjee and other senior leaders, she argued that the results do not reflect the people’s mandate but are instead the outcome of what she described as large-scale irregularities.
At the core of her speech was a direct and unapologetic question“Why should I resign? We have not lost. Then why is there talk of resignation?”
This statement ”Why Should I Resign? We Haven’t Lost” has now become the defining message of her response, signaling both resistance and refusal to accept the verdict.
Rejecting the Election Outcome
Mamata Banerjee claimed that the results were manipulated and maintained that her party was unfairly targeted. She alleged that democratic processes were compromised and insisted that the situation does not warrant stepping down from leadership.
She also questioned the role of the Election Commission of India, accusing it of failing to ensure a free and fair election.
Support from Opposition Leaders
Amid the controversy, several opposition figures reached out to her, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Uddhav Thackeray, and Akhilesh Yadav, expressing solidarity.
A Message of Resistance
Reinforcing her position, Mamata said she is ready to continue the political fight from the ground. She portrayed herself not as a defeated leader, but as someone prepared to challenge what she believes is an unjust outcome.
Her repeated assertion“Why Should I Resign? We Haven’t Lost”—underscores a broader message: the battle, according to her, is far from over.
