Peace stands as the most powerful message this Eid, as growing global tensions and recent conflicts have once again reminded humanity of the devastating cost of war. On this occasion of reflection, forgiveness, and unity, prominent human rights voices have urged the world to choose compassion over conflict and justice over aggression.
Marking the spirit of Eid, human rights advocate Shamim Ahmed emphasized that Peace is not merely an ideal but a necessity for the survival of humanity. Drawing attention to the recent escalation involving Iran, he reiterated that violence only deepens suffering, particularly for innocent civilians. He condemned the tragic loss of lives, especially the reported attack on a girls’ school, calling it a heartbreaking reminder of how war strips humanity of its conscience.
He further stated that targeting children and educational institutions is not only unlawful but morally indefensible. Schools symbolize hope, and their destruction reflects a broader collapse of human values. Eid, he noted, is a time to renew our commitment to protecting life, dignity, and the fundamental rights of every individual, regardless of borders or beliefs.
Highlighting the broader humanitarian crisis, Ahmed pointed out that ordinary people continue to bear the heaviest burden of conflict. Displacement, fear, and the destruction of essential infrastructure leave scars that last generations. Women face increased insecurity, children lose access to education, and families are torn apart—realities that starkly contrast with the message of Eid, which celebrates unity and compassion.
He also raised concerns about the underlying forces driving modern conflicts, including the global arms trade and geopolitical interests tied to resources like oil.
