Riot Sparks Chief Minister’s Warning

A day after a riot broke out in Bareilly on a cleric’s protest call, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath lashed out, saying, “The Maulana forgot whose government is in Uttar Pradesh. We will teach such a lesson that generations will forget to riot.” The remarks came hours after the arrest of Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC) president Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan and seven others.

Government’s Zero-Tolerance Stand

Riot in Bareilly

Adityanath said his administration has always dealt firmly with unrest, adding that since 2017, “bulldozer action” has been the government’s response to those disturbing law and order. The CM made it clear that the Bareilly riot would be handled in the same uncompromising way.

Arrests After Violence

The clashes erupted on Friday, September 26, when a crowd attempted to protest against police action linked to an earlier Kanpur incident where “I Love Muhammad” placards were stopped during an Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi procession. Police said protesters resorted to stone-pelting and violence, leading to a strong crackdown.

Tauqeer Raza Khan, identified as the main instigator, has been remanded to judicial custody, with multiple FIRs registered against him and other supporters. Investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected.
