Pride in the Festival of Freedom

Festival of Freedom

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday led the nation in celebrating the 79th Independence Day, calling the Festival of Freedom a proud reflection of India’s collective achievements. Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the iconic Red Fort after hoisting the national flag, he said the event was “a festival of 140 crore resolutions” and a testament to the country’s growing spirit of unity.

Unity, Legacy, and Aspirations

In his address, Modi recalled the historic moment of 1947 when India, powered by “infinite possibilities and countless arms,” achieved independence. “The aspirations of the nation were taking flight, but the challenges were even greater,” he said. He praised the Constituent Assembly for its commitment to the principles of Mahatma Gandhi and its role in shaping the Constitution — a guiding lighthouse for the past 75 years.

The Festival of Freedom, Modi added, is also an occasion to pay homage to leaders who laid down their lives for the nation. He commemorated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, calling the abrogation of Article 370 a true tribute to his vision of “One Nation, One Constitution.”

Operation Sindoor Takes Centre Stage

As Modi arrived at the Red Fort, two Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force flew overhead, showering petals and displaying the Tiranga alongside a banner for Operation Sindoor — described as India’s strongest counterstrike against Pakistan-backed terror bases.

Earlier in the day, Modi paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat before proceeding to the Red Fort.

Theme: Naya Bharat

This year’s celebrations, themed Naya Bharat, underline the vision of a prosperous, secure, and bold India. The government said the occasion serves as a platform to showcase the continuing rise of a confident nation determined to chart its own path in the world.
