West Bengal Election 2026: Poll Dates Officially Declared

West Bengal Election 2026 will take place in two phases across the state, according to the official schedule released on Sunday by the Election Commission of India. The announcement was made by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at a press conference held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.

The Commission confirmed that polling for the state assembly will begin on April 23, covering 152 constituencies in the first phase. The remaining 142 constituencies will go to the polls in the second phase on April 29, completing the voting process across West Bengal.

District-wise Polling Phases

In the West Bengal Election 2026, the first phase will largely cover districts in northern, western, and parts of southern Bengal. Districts included in this phase are Malda, Murshidabad, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, Uttar Dinajpur, and Dakshin Dinajpur.

The second phase will take place on April 29, covering the remaining districts including the state capital Kolkata and key urban and semi-urban areas. Districts going to the polls in this phase are Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Purba Bardhaman, and Nadia.

Officials said the two-phase arrangement has been designed to ensure smooth administration, adequate security deployment, and efficient management of polling stations across the state.
