Waqf Takes Center Stage in Bihar Election Battle
Waqf has emerged as a flashpoint in the Bihar Assembly elections, with INDIA bloc’s chief ministerial face Tejashwi Yadav declaring that the Waqf (Amendment) Act will be “thrown into the dustbin” once his coalition forms the government. Yadav made the fiery remark while addressing a rally on Sunday, pledging to restore what he called “justice and secular balance” in governance.
Reiterating his alliance’s commitment to grassroots empowerment, he also promised to double the allowances of Bihar’s panchayati raj representatives if the INDIA bloc returns to power.
CPI(ML) Releases Its Sankalp Patra
On the same day, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation) unveiled its Sankalp Patra—a vision document focusing on social justice and agrarian reform. The charter promises redistribution of 21 lakh acres of land, loan waivers for farmers and rural laborers, and 65% reservation for disadvantaged communities.
The Left party, a key ally of the INDIA bloc, framed its agenda around equity and dignity for the landless, projecting the election as a battle for inclusive progress.
Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) Expels 16 Leaders
Meanwhile, political turbulence hit the Janata Dal (United), as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expelled sixteen leaders—including a sitting MLA and two former ministers—for rebelling against official NDA candidates. The move underscores growing fractures within the ruling alliance ahead of the polls.
Mahua’s Multi-Cornered Contest: The Yadav Family Drama
In Mahua, a high-stakes and emotionally charged contest is unfolding. Tej Pratap Yadav, expelled by his father and RJD patriarch Lalu Prasad, faces a multi-cornered fight yet enjoys unwavering support from loyalists.
“Dal ghee mein hi girta hai,” quip RJD supporters, insisting that even a vote for the rebel son ultimately strengthens the party. The seat’s official RJD candidate, Mukesh Raushan, however, faces an uphill task convincing voters that supporting him is essential for Tejashwi Yadav’s bid for Chief Minister.
Prashant Kishor’s Turf Awaits Judgment Day

Over in Konar village—the ancestral home of Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor—residents await November 11, when the second and final phase of polling takes place. Many see the Kargahar constituency as a litmus test for Kishor’s promises of clean politics and grassroots reform.
Congress Deploys Heavyweights for Bihar Campaign
The Congress Party has announced a star-studded list of 40 campaigners for the first phase of the polls, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Kanhaiya Kumar, and Pappu Yadav. Senior leaders like Bhupesh Baghel, Sachin Pilot, and Ashok Gehlot will also join the campaign trail.
The INDIA bloc—comprising RJD, Congress, and Left parties—officially declared Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial candidate on October 23, consolidating its pitch as a united front against the ruling NDA.
