Unity in Focus: Patel’s Unfulfilled Dream

Unity was at the core of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day),observed every year on October 31 to commemorate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary. Speaking near the Statue of Unity in Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar, PM Modi said that Patel’s goal to bring the entire Kashmir under India’s fold was obstructed by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Unity

“Had Patel’s vision of unity been realized, Kashmir wouldn’t have endured decades of suffering due to political divisions,” PM Modi stated, recalling Patel’s determination to weave the nation into one fabric of integrity and strength.

A Call to Create History, Not Just Write It

Quoting Patel, Modi said, “One should not waste time writing history but work hard to create it.” He reiterated that real unity demands collective purpose and service, not slogans.

Modi reminded citizens that Sardar Patel found his greatest joy in serving the nation:

“There is no greater source of happiness than dedicating oneself to the service of the nation.”

Women Lead National Unity Parade

Before his address, PM Modi reviewed the National Unity Day parade — a striking display of discipline and empowerment where all contingents were commanded by women officers.

Participating forces included the BSF, CISF, ITBP, CRPF, SSB, and police contingents from multiple states including Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, Odisha, and Maharashtra. The NCC also joined, symbolizing the spirit of youth-led unity.

Republic Day-Style Spectacle Celebrates Diversity

This year’s parade carried a Republic Day-style grandeur, featuring ten floats from various regions and organizations — NSG, NDRF, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Manipur, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and Puducherry — all centered on the theme “Unity in Diversity.”

Over 900 artists performed classical dances, representing India’s cultural depth and harmony.

Honoring Courage and Service

The parade honored five Shaurya Chakra recipients from the CRPF and sixteen gallantry medal awardees from the BSF for their exceptional bravery in anti-Naxal and counter-terror operations.

The Indian Air Force’s breathtaking fly-past under Operation Surya Kiran marked a fitting conclusion to the day of national pride and unity.
