Vandalism was reported at a mosque in Telangana’s Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district after unidentified persons allegedly entered the Jama Masjid in Jalalpur village and damaged parts of the structure, leaving copies of the Quran desecrated. The incident came to light early Monday morning when worshippers arrived for the fajr prayers.

According to local residents, the vandalism is believed to have taken place around midnight in Jalalpur village of Bommalaramaram mandal. Intruders reportedly damaged sections of the boundary walls, window panes, washroom doors and the mosque’s public address system. Several copies of the Quran were found scattered across the premises. Empty beer and whisky bottles were also recovered from inside the compound, raising concern among members of the local community.

Shaikh Abdul Saleem, president of the mosque committee, said the imam discovered the damage when he reached the mosque for the morning call to prayer. He described the scene as chaotic, with religious texts lying on the floor and visible destruction to property. The management immediately informed the police, seeking swift action.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against unidentified persons under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions related to house trespass, damage to property, defiling a place of worship and promoting enmity between groups. Police officials confirmed that an investigation is underway and security personnel have been deployed outside the mosque as a precautionary measure.
Amjed Ullah Khan, spokesperson of the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), strongly condemned the incident and called for a thorough probe. He alleged that the mosque has faced resistance from certain sections of nearby villages since its construction in 2018. According to him, prior attempts to build a mosque in neighbouring Bandakadipally and Thumukunta villages had met with objections, following which the Jama Masjid was established in Jalalpur.
Khan further claimed that mosque authorities have previously encountered pressure regarding religious activities, including objections to visiting congregations and the use of loudspeakers for the azaan. He also expressed concern that possible evidence at the site may have been disturbed before proper documentation.
However, local police officials stated that, at this stage, no communal angle has been conclusively established. They maintained that the matter is being examined from all possible perspectives and urged residents to remain calm. Security in and around the village has been strengthened to prevent any escalation.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident while appealing for peace and cooperation from all communities.
