A disturbing case of student harassment has surfaced in Canning, where the principal of a reputed English-medium school has been detained for allegedly sending obscene and suggestive messages to female students. The police took action on Saturday following multiple formal complaints from students and their guardians.
The alleged harassment involved WhatsApp messages sent at odd hours—early in the morning and late at night. According to victims and their families, these messages often crossed the line of decency and were clearly inappropriate. Shockingly, the recipients were underage girls enrolled in the school, and the sender was none other than the school principal.
The situation escalated after the family of one student approached the local police station, presenting screenshots of the messages as evidence. Their complaint opened the floodgates, as several other students and even some mothers came forward with similar allegations. The local authorities responded swiftly, and the principal was detained directly from the school premises.
One of the aggrieved fathers said, “He had been sending indecent messages to my daughter for quite some time. We waited until her board exams were over to avoid disruption. But enough is enough—we’ve filed the complaint and demand strict punishment.”
This incident comes amid a series of scandals involving educational institutions across the state, including a recent alleged rape case at IIM Calcutta’s boys’ hostel in Joka.
