Elderly Man Found Buried in Birbhum: A remote village in Birbhum’s Mallarpur police jurisdiction has been rocked by the chilling murder of a 65-year-old farmer, allegedly at the hands of his own daughter-in-law. The body of the deceased, Tamal Bagdi, was discovered buried near a pond—just a kilometre from his home—after he went missing on Sunday.
The shocking case of the elderly man found buried in Birbhum has gripped the local community with fear and disbelief. Tamal Bagdi had left for his farmland early that morning but never made it back. Villagers, suspicious after spotting freshly disturbed soil near a nearby pond, alerted the authorities. Upon digging, police recovered the elderly man’s body, triggering a full-scale murder investigation in the quiet village of Ratma.
The victim’s wife, Sushani Bagdi, has directly accused her daughter-in-law of orchestrating the murder. “My husband opposed her illicit relationship. That’s why she had him killed,” she alleged. Her claim points to a deepening scandal within the family. Sushani further revealed that her son, Tamal’s elder son, had absconded from the village around six months ago with another man’s wife. Following this, the daughter-in-law allegedly became involved with a local youth.
Reportedly, tensions between Tamal and his daughter-in-law had been escalating for weeks. Sources close to the family stated that Tamal had confronted her after witnessing her with the young man in a compromising situation nearly two weeks ago. Shortly after the confrontation, the woman returned to her paternal home in Suri, which only intensified suspicions after Tamal went missing.
Police officials have detained three individuals for questioning, including two local youths and another suspect with ties to the family. A formal complaint has been lodged by the deceased’s wife, implicating the daughter-in-law, her parents, and others. A post-mortem examination has been commissioned to determine the exact cause of death.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage in the village, where locals are demanding a thorough investigation and swift justice. As the probe continues, the police have not ruled out further arrests.
