Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, for the first time in his 20-year tenure, released a video message appealing directly to the people of Bihar. The timing of this move is striking — just days before the state votes on November 6 and 11. It appears that the NDA senses the public mood may no longer be in its favor, which could be why the Chief Minister himself had to step forward to make a personal appeal.

A Lackluster Manifesto Launch

Nitish Kumar’s video message followed the release of the NDA’s election manifesto, which lasted less than a minute. The leaders quickly left the stage, and later, Samrat Choudhary provided further details about the document. However, the manifesto lacked the energy and enthusiasm typical of a major political announcement. Amid this muted response, the Chief Minister’s direct video appeal stood out and caught public attention.

In the 3-minute video, Nitish Kumar appeared to read from a teleprompter as he listed his government’s achievements — empowering women, supporting Dalits, Mahadalits, backward and extremely backward communities, and Muslims. Notably, he used the word “Muslims” instead of “minorities”, signaling a shift in his messaging.
He emphasized that “no one had done what we have accomplished so far,” and added that with continued public support, “more development will follow.”

Has Chief Minister Nitish Realized the Public Mood?

The big question now is whether the Chief Minister senses that Bihar’s electorate may be ready for change. Is he worried that the NDA might lose its grip on power this time?
The BJP has yet to name its chief ministerial face, hinting at internal uncertainty within the alliance.

The first phase of polling, covering 121 seats across 18 districts, is crucial. Early voter surveys suggest that the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) currently holds an edge. The coming days will reveal whether Nitish Kumar’s video message manages to strike a chord with voters.
