Slight increase recorded, but winter chill continues across South Bengal
Kolkata Temperature saw a modest rise on Thursday, with the minimum temperature climbing by nearly one degree in the past 24 hours. The city returned to the 11-degree range, though conditions remain significantly colder than the seasonal average, according to the Meteorological Department.

After experiencing the coldest day of the season earlier this week, Kolkata is slowly inching upward on the temperature scale. On Tuesday, the city recorded a minimum of 10.2°C, the lowest so far this winter. The mercury edged up slightly to 10.3°C on Wednesday. By Thursday morning, the Kolkata Temperature increased further to 11.6°C — a rise of 1.3 degrees compared to the previous day. Despite this increase, temperatures are still about 2.3 degrees below normal.
Cold conditions continue to grip other parts of South Bengal as well. Among the region’s coldest locations, Sriniketan recorded a minimum temperature of 7°C early Thursday. Meanwhile, in the northern hill areas, Darjeeling experienced an intense chill as temperatures dropped to just 1°C.
Weather officials stated that the overall winter pattern is expected to remain unchanged over the next two to three days. While no major fluctuations in minimum temperatures are forecast, a gradual rise of around 2°C may follow thereafter. Even then, the winter feel is likely to stay intact, with Kolkata Temperature potentially settling between 12°C and 13°C in the coming days.
