Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s Personality: Timeless, Intellectual, and Inspiring

On the occasion of National Education Day and the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, noted human rights activist and Hindi-Urdu Academy patron Shamim Ahmed said in his statement that Maulana Azad’s vision and values are as relevant today as they were during the freedom struggle. “Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s thoughts are not bound by time,” said Shamim Ahmed. “His vision continues to light the way for education, unity, and intellectual awakening in our nation.”
He emphasized that Azad’s idea of education went far beyond textbooks. For him, education was the path to moral strength, independent thinking, and the creation of responsible citizens — not merely a tool for employment.
Education as the Foundation of a Conscious Nation
According to Shamim Ahmed, Maulana Azad’s greatest contribution was his belief that education could transform a nation’s soul. He constantly urged India to link education with human dignity and national progress.“Education,” Ahmed noted, “is the light that removes the darkness of ignorance, division, and intolerance.” He added that in today’s climate — when youth face confusion, misinformation, and ideological division — Maulana Azad’s message of critical thought and humanism can guide India toward stability and unity.
National Unity and Political Maturity Among Indian Muslims
Shamim Ahmed highlighted Maulana Azad’s broad national outlook and deep commitment to communal harmony.

“Maulana Azad was not just a Muslim leader — he was a leader of the Indian mind and conscience,” Ahmed said. He recalled how, after independence, Azad advised Indian Muslims to actively participate in the nation’s development, asserting that a community’s true dignity lies in its constructive role within the country. “His words remind us that political maturity and national loyalty must go hand in hand,” said Ahmed.
Why Maulana Azad’s Teachings Matter More Than Ever
Commenting on the relevance of Azad’s vision, Shamim Ahmed said that in times of growing social division and religious intolerance, Maulana Azad’s ideals of education, tolerance, and unity are essential to rebuilding harmony and trust in society. “The rise of a community comes through education,” Azad once said, “and its survival through unity.” Ahmed emphasized that these words are not historical relics but a moral compass for modern India.
A Message for the Youth
Concluding his statement, Shamim Ahmed said that National Education Day should be more than a celebration — it should be a moment of reflection. He urged young people to move beyond symbolic respect and to live by the values that Maulana Azad stood for: courage, knowledge, and national consciousness.“If we sincerely follow Maulana Azad’s principles,” Ahmed said, “not only the Muslim community but the entire nation can enter a new era of intellectual and moral awakening.”
